Part 2 of the first batch of finding what our members are up to during COVID-19 close downs!
I am trying to find out how everyone is spending their times and decided to ask around and investigate :P.
My next two people I targeted were Joe and Brinton!
Hey Joe! How’s your life been these days?
Good as always!
Work/study much the same? What’s your average day like?
Not much work these days and studying has gone all online so doing what I can from home. I can get LOTS more sleep now. I sleep 12 hours now!
Wait what 12 hours?! Isn’t that too much?
Plus naps. Eat a few hours a day, study and talk to friends! 🙂
Oh my gosh. Sounds like you have a LOT more time. Anything cool you want to share with us that you have now been able to achieve?
Yes, I have just finished a new book called “Applying self determination theory to education and practice”.
The book in once sentence!
Basically its theory about a hand-off way of educating – that students are better off not being told to study but left alone to study by themselves.
I see…and do you agree with the theory (FYI – Joe is studying Education and is aspiring to be a teacher)
Absolutely not! It would not work in practice.
Ha-ha! Indeed. I guess its quite a big claim to go against hundreds of years of compulsory education. All these theories tend to sound nice but hard to implement in reality. I bet it was some academic who wrote the book…
A professor from University of….
Arghhh! Okay we shall not name them. 😊 That being said I am sure it’s a great read and its awesome you are doing some extra learning. Nice stuff!
Okay, last but not least – Brinton what’s been happening on your end?
Pretty much business as usual really. My work is a consultancy, so a lot of our work is online or all around the place, so its just working at home rather than at one specific location
Nice, good to hear some jobs are not as effected as others. How about when you are at home what do you do?
One thing I have managed to do better is keeping my house neat and tidy. Other than that… not much, just keeping things clean really!
Amazing. Only if you could come to my place… anything else worth sharing?
Mmmm. Nah not really! Staying heathy, keeping the mind active, I’ve got good house mates, not much else.
Oh, I see. Rather easy then! Well then here’s a question – how do you stay connected with people when we can’t leave the house? Online/social media? But I feel there’s a limit …
One good thing I found is some online games – not gamer stuff – just simple ones. The Jackbox collection is pretty fun! Simple party games, things like charades…etc etc.
Cool! I wanted something. I have no Xbox or Playstation….but I want to play games…but I have no money either. I’m definitely gonna check this out!
Well I suppose the lessons from our Exec members have been:
Takumi – preparing what he can during this down time, prepping for the working life
Sam – spending quality time with loved ones (pets!!!)
Joe – reading new material even if he doesn’t agree with it (and sleeping….)
Brinton – cleaning (that’s important especially now) and staying in touch with friends online.
We hope the rest of the club members are staying put and healthy! All the best as we overcome COVID-19.
