How long have you been practicing Kendo and why did you begin?
I have been practicing kendo in Sydney for 6 months, and i have also practiced in Brazil, for 1 year and half.
I started because I was looking for a martial art which still combine the philosophy of martial art with the sports/fitness part. Most of the martial arts now are just sports… so a friend told me about kendo and invite to visit her club… and love in first sight.
How long have you been training in bogu?
6 months in Brazil and around 3 months here at USYD.
Was there any difference you noticed when you transitioned from beginner to bogu training?
Yes, its feel like you are learning kendo all over again… in the beginning you feel a little lost adapting to the bogu and new way of training and receiving the cuts, but for me this new challenge made me want to practice more so I can keep up with the seniors.
What do you like about Kendo and what do you get out of training?
I like how we get motivated to always go forward no matter of the barrier/challenge/opponent we are facing, and always giving 110% of ourselves in the activities. This mentality helps in Kendo and also outside when you are facing a problem or challenge at work or uni. Also for me is a stress relieve, it makes me relax while I am doing some exercise.
Is there anything else you would like to say about your Kendo experience?
I can say I was very well received by the club, even compared to my previous club the reception of everyone was amazing, since day one I felt I was a member from the club and that is a plus to motivate to go training everyday.
