Senior Internal Shiai on the 31st of July!

Posted on August 1, 2022 by Media in Club News, Competition

Hello everyone,

On the 31st of July, our senior cohort , both Kyu (Men and Women) and Dan (Men and Women) had an internal shiai, organised by Takayama-sensei! It has been a very long time since we were able to have one, so all of us were eager and fired up to perform to the best of our capabilites!

For those who do not know, Shiai is essentially a “fight” or a “duel” between two Kendoka! It is definitely one of the more challenging aspects of Kendo, as it pushes us to the limits as we used what we had learned against one another!

The day was a spectacular event of Kendo performance, as all our senior members competed against one another in a pool-competition style tournament! Although our beginner cohort was unable to compete, as at this point in time, it is still a bit too early for them, I hope that those who showed up to spectate were entertained, and managed to learn something new from watching an important aspect of Kendo!

Congratulations to those who got the results they wanted, and for those who unfortunately, there is always next time – let us all revise what we had learned during shiai and apply it to our training routine!

Unfortunately, photos are currently unavailable, so please bear with us!

– Makoto
